Let's face it, modeling is here to stay, and even though most players still prefer the good ol' amp-setup live, modeling has become a valuable tool especially for recording.Still, one thing that bugged me was that most modeling units/programs lacked the dynamics and "musical behavior" of tubes. So I was really interested in the S2t, which combines modeling with a preamp tube.
Well, after trying it out thoroughly, it has become a great tool for recording to me. Lots of great amp and cabinet models combined with bunches of effects, all available at the click of the mouse, and playing through it is so much fun because the tube DOES make a difference... picking dynamics, harmonics, warmth...
I very recently recorded soundfiles for both a symphonic metal-band and Blizzard Of Ozz, the Ozzy Osbourne-tribute band I play in. The S2t helped me to get really close to the sounds of the original Ozzy-guitarists easily, and then in a heartbeat I was able to switch to some great-sounding modern metal-sounds for the other band.
Check it out, this combines the best of both worlds, just like the G9.2tt which still is one of my favorite tools in the studio and on stage.

Those units are fun! I use them mainly for teaching, but also did some overdubs with them... with Venus Meadow, we try to get that "wall of sound" when we record, recording bunches of tracks with different sounds, and the crazy sounds John5 programmed into the G1J as well as the very versatile metal-to-jazz sounds Kiko came up with for his G1K offer quite a lot of variety. The integrated drum-machine is fun to jam along with. A great tool not only for teaching, but also on the road, for warming up before shows or clinics backstage or at the hotel. Check them out!

What a cool little pedal! I didnt know what to expect from it, but I soon started using it for teaching and practicing, and even wrote and recorded some riffs and demo-solos for Venus Meadow with it!
George's presets rock, and are not only cool if you are into Dokken and other 80s metal stuff. The drum-machine rules, its so much fun to jam along or practice too, and it's so small you can take it everywhere. It's FUN, I love it!

Most people ignore the importance of musical tools beside the actual instrument. Yes, it is important to have a good guitar and a nice-sounding amp, but a harddisc-recorder like the HD8 or the HD16 can be just as inspiring than a cool guitar!
Both enable you to create great-sounding recordings on the fly. The drum-patterns (you can even import your own drum-samples!) will help you to record that cool new riff or chord progression in a matter of minutes, and the included effects and digital modeling unit make it so easy to make your song-idea sound good right away!
The HD-units are so easy to use, and if you can use them in conjunction with the DAW-software of your choice, working becomes so comfortable and quick, so you can let those ideas flow.
They are wonderful, musical tools which offer so many awesome features that will make composing, demoing, home-recording and many other things a lot easier and more comfortable!

The G9.2tt truly combines the best of both worlds... digital modeling and classic tube sounds. So you get a variety of cool modeling-sounds, great-sounding effects and the warmth and bite of tubes. And you have so many options when you create your own patches, so you really can profit from studying the manual. At the same time, if you just wanna plug in and play, you can ! What impressed me the most ( other than the sounds... first time I used it I found myself jamming and noodling for a really long time...and started to write new songs ) was the general concept... this unit is built to be worked with. Solid metal,heavy-duty durable switches, easy-to-read display... there are so many little details that make this a great tool both live and in the studio. A lot of consideration and thought went into the development of this, I am sure of it. It's not "yet another digital modeling thingy"... this really is a unique and very versatile unit. Once you get into all the parameters and options, you will get used to them really quickly, so editing asound for your individual needs is no problem at all. Once I got used to it, I was hooked. Great sounds, all the options and extras you may need, ready to go on the road. I love it ! |
