Michael Bernier - Stick Men

H4n

Along with recording live performances, I have been using the ZOOM H4n recorder to capture sounds for samples, dialogue for my comedy skits with "Bernier/ Harris" productions and for wonderful quality when I play acoustically with a large group. It's small and compact. Perfect for travelling on the road, especially when you have an idea between gigs on tour...you simply plug your instrument into the H4n and record 2 direct inputs (which my Chapman Stick needs!) or 4 way directional recording if others want to chime in! I don't go anywhere without it now! A must for the writing/brainstorming musician and perfect for touring situations.

SB-246

I was looking for a drum machine that wasn't as antiquated as my older ones; one with some richer and relevant sounds. Also, it was important for me to find one that I could control in a live setting. Behold the ZOOM SB-246 ! When my drummer cancels on a duo gig...the gig is still on! I've been playing tons of solo performances with the SB-246 and the response has been incredible. It certainly caters to a very ''Tribe Called Quest meets DJ Shadow'' textured hip-hop sound, in my opinion. I love it! I can store beats and patterns for premeditated pieces and/or just throw caution to the wind and improvise with a spontaneous design on the spot and run it. Wonderful for solo artists and certainly a very useful device for studio recordings.

B9.1ut

Playing a stereo instrument like the Chapman Stick I needed to find two effects units that could create a distinct voice for each side of the instrument. Having already toured with Stick Men using the G2.1u, I knew I could look to ZOOM when I needed to upgrade my effects setup for the Stick Men European Tour. I needed two wonderful dynamic pedals that could accomodate my unorthodox techniques while also being sturdy and reliable during the long tour schedule. I am pleased to be using the B9.1ut for the bass side of the Stick and the G9.2tt console for the guitar side. The sound is absolutely perfect for what I need to achieve sonically. Whether I'm tapping, strumming or bowing the Stick the ZOOM setup I have now has improved my sound tremedously!
I reccomend ZOOM products for all musicians and of course specifically stickists, who like me, have probably had a difficult time trying to get the stick to sound different than other sticks. Go ZOOM !
