FAQ
H1
H1
Recording
About how long can the H1 record for?
The maximum recording time depends on the capacity of the SD card that is being used and the recording format. For details, see
here.
Can the H1 record in mono?
No, it cannot. The H1 always records in stereo.
Can recording be paused?
No, recording cannot be paused.
What is the maximum sound pressure level (SPL) of the built-in microphone?
The maximum SPL of the built-in microphone is 120 dB.
Sound is distorted even when the INPUT LEVEL is lowered to “1”.
The maximum input sound pressure level (SPL) of the built-in microphone is 120 dB. Any sound that is louder than this will be distorted at the moment that it is input into the built-in microphone. Moreover, the H1 is designed to use the lowest possible analog input level when the INPUT LEVEL is set to “16”. When the INPUT LEVEL is set to “15” or less, the volume is reduced digitally, so it might be impossible to avoid analog distortion in some cases.
Is it possible to continuously record for a long time even if the maximum WAV file size (2 GB) is exceeded?
Yes, it is possible. The H1 is designed to save a file at the moment it reaches 2 GB* in size during recording and continue recording to a new file. This process is conducted without interrupting the recording. For this reason, seamless recording data can be recreated if you line these files up in order in wave editing software on a computer.
*Ordinarily, the maximum size of WAV files is set to 2 GB. WAV Files that are larger than 2 GB might not be properly recognized by computer media players and other audio software.
If the SD card runs out of open space during recording, is the recorded audio data erased?
No, it is not erased. If the card runs out of open space, the H1 automatically stops recording and writes the audio data recorded up to that point to the card.
USB
Does the H1 have a USB audio interface function?

Is the H1 Compatible with 64-bit versions of Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)?
Yes, it is. Recorded data can be transferred to a computer running one of these operating systems when the H1 is connected to it by the USB cable.
SD cards
Can microSDHC memory cards be used with the H1?
Yes, they can. The H1 can use microSDHC cards with capacities of up to 32 GB.
Which microSD/SDHC cards have been confirmed to work properly with the H1?
Please see
here for information about microSD/SDHC cards that have been confirmed to work properly with the H1.
Other topics
Can the H1 use nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) rechargeable batteries?
Yes, the H1 can use them. However, it cannot recharge batteries. Use a commercially-available charger to recharge batteries for use with the H1.
Can an external stereo microphone that needs plug-in power be used with the H1?
Yes, it can. The stereo microphone input jack on the side of the H1 provides plug-in power. However, the built in microphone cannot be used at the same time.
Can an external mono microphone be used with the H1?
No, unfortunately. When a mono microphone is plugged to the H1, only the left channel will be input and recording will result in stereo tracks with silence in the right channel.
A file recorded at 24-bit/96 kHz cannot be played back on a computer. What is wrong?
Some media players and DAW software cannot play back WAV files with high bit and sampling rates, including 24-bit/96 kHz files. Record in a format that is supported by the software that you are using.
Does the H1 have audio editing functions?
No, the H1 does not have audio editing functions.
Does the H1 have a timestamp function to include the date and time of creation of recorded files?
Yes, it does. The H1 has a built-in clock to add the date and time to recorded files. Please see page 2 of the Quick Start Guide, and set the date and time correctly.
Note: If power is not supplied to the H1 for 3 minutes or longer, the date and time will be set to the default value. If this happens, reset the date and time.
Does the H1 have effects?
No, the H1 does not have effects.
Does the H1 have a hold function to prevent misoperation during recording?
Yes, the H1 has a hold function to disable the operation of buttons. To activate the hold function, slide the POWER switch to the HOLD position. To deactivate the hold function, slide the POWER switch back to its original (center) position.
Does the H1 have a normalize function?
No, the H1 does not have a normalize function.
Is it possible to locate to marks that have been set?
Yes, it is possible. Use the [FF]/[REW] key to locate to the previous/next mark.
Can the H1 operate using USB bus power?
Yes, it can. To use the H1’s card reader functions while powered by USB, make sure the H1’s power is OFF when you connect it by USB to a computer.
Is it okay to leave the battery in the H1 when powering it with the AC adapter or by USB?
Yes, it is okay. The battery will not be drained.
