FAQ
MRS-8
MRS-8
Recording
The indication "FULL" appears while recording.
The remaining capacity on the SD card is fully taken up. Change to another SD card or erase unneeded data to free up space. The V-take currently being recorded will not be saved.
Recorder stops during playback and the indication "FULL" appears.
When a track is played while being selected for recording, a temporary file is created in the MRS-8. If the remaining capacity on the SD card is fully taken up by this file, a forced playback stop may occur. In such a case, please cancel the record selection of the track.
I cannot succeed in stereo recording. When play back the recorded track, the recorded stereo sound source is altered to mono.
There are 2 possible reasons.
(1) Effect algorithm is monaural input type.
GUITAR or MIC effect algorithm cannot be used for stereo source. Please use another effect algorithm or bypass insert effect.
(2) The panning position is incorrect.
To record stereo track correctly, set PAN parameter for Left channel to L100, and PAN parameter for Right channel to R100. Or please set the STEREO LINK function to ON.
Althogh I performed bounce recording, the bounced result is not available.
If "CURRENT" is not selected as a recording target V-take, the bounce result will be recorded on the V-take of the recording track with the specified number. For details, please refer to "Selecting the recording destination V-take" (p.40) in operation manual.
Althogh I performed bounce recording, only the signal from the drum track or bass track is recorded.
If "DRUM TR" or ""BASS TR" is selected as recording source signal, the audio tracks 1 - 8 are not mixed into the bounced result. This function is called "rhythm recording". To return the bounce function to normal condition, switch the recording source back to "MASTER", as described in "Selecting drum / bass track as recording source" (p.42) in operation manual.
I have used the bounce function to record material onto stereo track, but during playback only one channel is heard.
When the V-take number of the bounce target track and the V-take number for playback are different, only one track of the bounced material may be played back. To perform bounce recording in stereo, set the V-take of the bounce target to "CURRENT" (currently selected V-take). If performing bounce with a setting other than CURRENT, make sure that the correct V-takes are selected for the stereo track in playback.
For information on selecting the V-take for the bounce target, see "Selecting the recording destination V-take" on page 40 of the operation manual. For information on switching the V-take for each track, see "Switching the V-take" on page 32 of the operation manual.
I used the built-in mics to record a band performance, but the recording is distorted, although I adjusted the recording level properly.
The built-in mics may pick up physical vibrations such as very low frequencies as distortion. When setting up the MRS-8, avoid locations that will be subject to strong vibrations such as near speakers or a drum set. It may also be advisable to place the unit on a soft cloth or similar, to reduce the influence of vibrations.
Mixer
Although the fader volume is increased, I cannot hear the sound.
With a digital mixer, the appeared fader position can be different from the actual parameter value. Please move the fader volume a little, so that the parameter matches the fader position.
Is it possible to use tracks 5/6 - 7/8 as individual four mono tracks?
No, it's not possible. Tracks 5/6 - 7/8 are two set of stereo tracks. One side of stereo tracks cannot be selected for recording / playback. Please use those tracks for recording stereo sources such as a synthesizer or bounce destination.
Rhythm Machine
Is there a simple rhythm pattern as guide rhythm for use during recording ?
Yes. Please select the pattern number 510 "METRO44" or the pattern number 509 "METRO34". Simple metronome click in 4/4 beat or 3/4 beat is available.
I want to make new rhythm track for the song that was recorded by a tape recorder in the past.
It's possible. You can record drum sound to any track by playing drum pads in real time, while listening recorded song. Please refer to the item of "Rhythm recording" (p.42-p.43) of the operation manual.
Is it possible to import SMF (Standard MIDI Files) to the MRS-1608?

Other Topics
The built-in mic doesn't work even though MIC switch turns on.
When the insert effect algorithm is "CLEAN, DIST, ACO/BASS SIM, BASS", the built in mic cannot be used. (Except when the effect type "CABI" is selected in the PRE AMP/DRIVE module or when it is turned off) Please select another effect algorithm or bypass the insert effect.
Is it possible to connect a condenser microphone?
No. Although the MRS-8 is equipped with XLR input jack , 48V phantom power cannot be supplied. Please use a dynamic microphone.
Are there phrase loop function and pad sampler function?
No. Those functions are not available on the machine.
Is there data compatibility with other MRS series?
If you have Windows computer with a SD card reader / writer, you can import audio track data from other MRS series (except for MRS-4) by using a free software "Card Manager for Windows".
*The MRS series must be equipped with an optional USB board.
The MRS-8 does not recognize the project folders, although the computer recognizes those folders of the MRS-8.
When you changed the name of folder - "PROJ xxx" ( where the "xxx" part is the project number as 000-999) - by computer operation, the MRS-8 cannot recognize it. Please correct back to original name of folders. Please never alter the names of folders or files other than project also.
MIDI synchronization is not working with other equipment.
Please make sure that MRS-8 is set to MTC / MIDI clock "master" and set up the other device to operate as MTC / MIDI clock "slave". Also, we recommend you to turn off unused MIDI sync message to prevent the malfunction of the receiving device. For details about how to set up, please refer to "Making MIDI-related settings" (p.108 - p.110) in operation manual.
I want to use the data of MRS-8 on my computer. What should I prepare?

When I locate a marker point using the measure/beat/tick indication, the position is shifted by several ticks.
The marker point is stored in memory using the hour/minute/second information of the recorder section. Each time you perform a locate operation using the measure/beat/tick indication, the display value is calculated again, based on the tempo and beat information of the rhythm section. This calculation may lead to a slight error. To get the most accurate locate result, you should use the hour/minute/second indication.
