PS-02
PS-02
How long is it possible to record in PS-02?
Recording time is up to the capacity of Smart Media Card you use, and to the recording mode. Please find the following:
| Capacity | Long Mode | Hi-Fi Mode |
| 8M | 6'26" | 3'12" |
| 16M | 15'02" | 7'30" |
| 32M | 32'23" | 16'11" |
| 64M | 67'07" | 33'33" |
Is it possible to create original rhythm pattern?
No, it isn't. Although original rhythm pattern cannot be created by PS-02 itself, it is enable to create pattern freely by using the rhythm track RT-323. As PS-02 and RT323 have compatibility of pattern data, your original rhythm pattern can be played on PS-02 by exporting the rhythm pattern created by RT-323 to PS-02. In addition, the newest rhythm pattern can also be downloaded freely from our website.
Please try.
I want to use odd meter.
Although odd meter is not contained in the factory preset pattern. However, you can use it on PS02, after importing the pattern data created by RT-323. Please see above Q&A.
Is it possible to use the audio data recorded by PS02 on PC or Mac?
The following things are possible using "Card Manager" software. You can download freely from this website. Please see "Download Page".
1. Convert the audio data of PS-02 into Wav/AIFF file.
2. Convert WAV/AIFF file into the recording data of PS-02.
3. Convert the rhythm pattern of PS-02 into SMF (Standard Midi File).
Is it possible to record musical instruments other than guitar, i.e. keyboard or bass etc?
Yes. The effect types for bass, keyboards, microphones, and mix-down are prepared in PS-02, besides for guitar. Moreover, auto-compensation effect is added to built-in microphone, and so it is not inferior to individual microphone.
Is stereo recording possible?
Yes. Stereo recording is possible using AUX terminal (mini-stereo). When you connect the stereo keyboard output or CD player, please use this terminal. As AUX terminal is designed so that the converted sound sources, such as CD and Synthesizer, built-in effects cannot be used. In case recording with some effect, it is necessary to use monaural input.
After recording for 3 tracks, can't it record any more?
Separated data of 3 tracks is can be bounced on two tracks or one track. After bouncing, the track which became unnecessary can be used for recording again. Please note that the empty memory area for recording time is temporarily needed on Smart Media when bouncing. Please "Bounce Function" in operation manual.
I want to correct only a part in the recorded audio track.
PS-02 has "Auto Punch In/Out" function. Marking start & end point of a part to correct, you can over-record that part only.
Is it possible to use 128MB Smart Media?
No, it is impossible. Please use 8MB to 64MB Smart Media. When PS-02 has released, 128MB Smart Media was not available. That is why we could notconfirm it. Please understand.
Where can I get extra Smart Media card for PS-02?
SmartMedia is a general memory card for digital cameras. You can purchase it at computer shops. You may also able to find some net-stores. If you cannot find it, please ask Zoom distributor in your country.
I want to bounce Drum, Bass & Audio data to one track.
You are not allowed to do bouncing Drum & Bass sequence data with Audio data you recorded, because Drum & Bass sound is created by sound module with sequence data. However, you can edit any Drum & Bass pattern even after you have recorded Audio tracks.
My Smart Media card seems lose data, and "CRDERR" displayed.
Most possible reason why "CRDERR" displayed is dusty contact area. Please clean up contact area by soft cloth, and try again. If error massage is still displayed, please
Even I download the recovery data and copy the file to SmartMedia, PS-02 does not work and displays "CRDERR" when I plug it into the slot and power it on.
The data you downloaded is the compressed file with self-extract format. Please extract it with double-click, choosing any folder. When you copy the extracted 9 files into the SmartMedia card, PS-02 will be working with it.
Even I download the recovery data, extract it and copy all files to SmartMedia, PS-02 does not work and displays "CRDERR" when I plug it into the slot and power it on.
Problem is the setting of Windows. When Windows does not show system files, by its setting, three system files of recovery data are not displayed. Therefore you cannot copy them onto the SmartMedia. By changing the setting of Windows, shows all files and folders. Please refer Windows help how to change setting, since several methods are available for each Windows version. If you will change setting, you can find 9 files as recovery data. Copy all files to SmartMedia, then PS-02 will be working right away.
I would like to import audio and rhythm data together into my computer.
There are 2 ways.
1) Import data to DAW software.
Audio track can be converted to WAV/AIFF file and rhythm data can be converted to SMF format (Standard MIDI file), by using the software "Card Manager" that you can download freely from our website.
2) Import audio signal
Connect PS-02 output to line input of the computer, play the song and record it to computer as stereo audio signal. Both Windows and Macintosh come equipped with the software that can record audio signal. Please refer your computer's help. If your computer has no line input, as like notebook computer, please use USB audio interface that allows you to record audio signal as same as line input.

Why Card Error "CDERR" is displayed?
When Card Error(CDERR) is displayed, the PS-02 is not successfully reading the system files of the smart media card. Due to:
1. DIRT ON THE CONTACT AREA
If there is dirt on the contact area of the smart card, PS-02 cannot read the System files from the Smart Media card. Please clean the contact area on the Smart Media card by lightly wiping with a soft cloth.
2. DAMAGE OF DATA
Data files on the Smart Media card may be damaged when: Turning off the power or Removing the Smart Media card during: Normal recording / playing System loading at the start up System Files are re-written at the end of play/record.
NOTE1:When a song ends either by hitting the stop button or letting the song end automatically, the SONG/PATTERN file and UTILITY file must be re-written.
NOTE2:You must not remove or power down the PS-02 when the "Card access icon" is flashing. Removing the card at this time must damage to the recorded information and the system/utility files.
What is the difference between "FORMATTING" and "FORCE FORMATTING"?
Purpose of the "FORMATTING" is to use newly purchased or un-readable Smart Media card on the PS-02. Therefore, you need another Smart Media that is working correctly. On the other hand, purpose of "FORCE FORMATTING" is to use un-readable Smart Media card on the computer, when you restore the back-up data from the computer to Smart Media card.
Formatting
Formatting is carried out when inserting a newly purchased Smart Media card in PS-02 or choosing Format menu.
1. Carry out DOS Formatting of a Smart Media card
2. Copy System files onto the Smart Media card, including Song/Pattern, Patch, Drum/Bass Sound which are working on the PS-02.
Force formatting
This is function to carry out when power on with "REC" and "STORE" key pushed. Carried our only DOS format.
Note that it is impossible to use Smart Media card formatted by PC/Windows on PS-02. However it is possible to read/write Smart Media card formatted by PS-02 on PC/Windows.
Note that usable Smart Media card for PS-02 must:
Be 8MB to 64MB in 3.3V specification.
Be formatted by PS-02 itself, not be formatted by PC/Windows.
Have the system files, necessary to the start up as follows:
The auto punch-in/out function does not work.
The auto punch-in/out function is available only for tracks that have already been recorded. If nothing is recorded on a track, the function cannot be used. Record some material on the track first.
The SmartMedia card that came with the unit is broken, and I cannot start the PS-02.
The system files that were on the supplied SmartMedia card can be obtained for free from the
download page on our web site. First you must purchase a generic SmartMedia card and format it in the PS-02. Then copy the system files to the card. This will result in a card that can be used in the same way as the original SmartMedia card that came with the unit.
* To copy the files, use a commercially available SmartMedia card reader/writer.
When I try to format a card, the indication "ERROR" appears and the formatting process does not go ahead.
The SmartMedia card has a write-protect sticker attached. Remove the sticker and try again. Otherwise, the indication also appears when inserting a 128-MB card that is not supported by the PS-02. Use only SmartMedia cards rated for 3.3V with a capacity between 8 and 64 MB.
I want to burn WAV files exported with the Card Manager to an audio CD. How can I do this?
Before using your CD writing software, you must convert the sampling frequency to 44.1 kHz which is the standard used for CD audio. Use a freeware waveform editor or other suitable software to convert the sampling rate.
I used the built-in mics to record a band performance, but the recording is distorted, although I adjusted the recording level properly.
The built-in mics may pick up physical vibrations such as very low frequencies as distortion. When setting up the PS-02, avoid locations that will be subject to strong vibrations such as near speakers or a drum set. It may also be advisable to place the unit on a soft cloth or similar, to reduce the influence of vibrations.
